My everyday hair care tips
Healthy hair isn't about complicated routines. It's the small things you do every day. These are the tips I give my clients most often.

1. Don't over-wash
Washing every day strips away your hair's natural oils. Two or three times a week is enough for most hair types.
2. Condition the right way
Apply conditioner to your mid-lengths and ends rather than your roots, leave it for a couple of minutes, then rinse it out well.
3. Be gentle when it's wet
Hair is at its most fragile when it's wet. Detangle from the ends upwards with a wide-tooth comb or a detangling brush, never from the roots down.
4. Swap your towel
Rubbing with a rough towel causes frizz and breakage. Gently squeeze out the water with a microfibre towel or a soft cotton T-shirt instead.
5. Protect before you style
Use a heat protection spray every time you blow dry, straighten or curl, and keep your tools at a moderate heat.
6. Keep the dryer moving
Let your hair dry naturally for a few minutes first, then blow dry with the nozzle pointing down the hair shaft to keep it smooth and shiny.
7. Book regular trims
A trim every eight to twelve weeks keeps split ends away, so your hair looks thicker and healthier as it grows.
8. Sleep on silk
A silk or satin pillowcase creates less friction than cotton, so you'll wake up with smoother hair and fewer tangles.
9. Go easy on tight hairstyles
Very tight ponytails and thin elastics can snap the hair. Choose soft scrunchies or spiral bobbles, and vary where you tie your hair.
10. Shield it from sun and pool water
Sun and chlorine dry hair out and can change the tone of coloured hair. Cover up in strong sun, and rinse your hair with clean water straight after swimming.
