Balayage or highlights: which is right for you?
It's one of the questions I'm asked most. Both can look stunning, but they give quite different results. Here's how to choose.

What is balayage?
Balayage is a French word meaning “to sweep”. The colour is hand-painted onto the hair, so the result is soft and natural, with no harsh line as it grows out. It's ideal if you want a sun-kissed, lived-in look.
What are highlights?
Highlights are woven through the hair in foils, starting close to the root. They give brighter, more even lightness from top to bottom and a more polished, uniform finish.
Balayage could suit you if…
- You'd like a soft, natural blend rather than all-over brightness.
- You want colour that's easy to look after and grows out gracefully.
- You have medium to long hair, where the blend really shows.
Highlights could suit you if…
- You want brightness right from the root.
- You'd like a more even, uniform lightness.
- You want to soften the look of grey hair as it grows.
How long do they last?
Balayage usually needs refreshing every three to four months, and sometimes longer. Highlights tend to need a top-up every six to eight weeks, because the regrowth shows sooner.
Can you have both?
Yes. Balayage and fine highlights can be combined, for example brighter pieces around the face with a soft blend through the lengths. We can talk through what will suit you best at your consultation.
Prices
Signature balayage starts from £300 and highlights from £200. The final price depends on the length and thickness of your hair. You'll find everything on my price list.
